Long time no blog! It’s been a real hot minute since I’ve sat down and fully dedicated my time to writing a blog post, which I feel somewhat guilty about but I swear, I had good reason. This past year has been my last and final year at school, and I really wanted to focus my time and energy on getting the best possible grades I could, and on taking my last semester in particular to just let myself relax for once.
With that being said, there are a whole slew of new products, routines, and brands that I have been absolutely loving as of late and I’m excited to share! Also as a quick disclaimer/update: my blog now is going to feature only cruelty free products and I hope to incorporate more lifestyle/food aspects as well rather than solely beauty! But you best believe skincare and makeup will always take up a big chunk of my heart.
So, as my first blog back from the depths of papers, exams, and brain breaking classes, I thought I would let you guys in on what my current, cruelty-free skincare routine looks like as of right now. Just a forewarning… it’s excessive.
Step 1: Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm with Echinacea GreenEnvy
When it comes to makeup remover, I’ve bounced back and forth between pretty much everything you could ever think of. Miceller water, face wipes, coconut oil…. You name it. But I think I’ve found my one true love in the Farmacy Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm. If you ask me, makeup removal is one of the most important steps in your skincare routine. Believe your mother when she tells you that there are few things as damaging as falling asleep with a face full of makeup. Luckily, this Farmacy cleansing balm is the best solution even for the laziest of girls. It doesn’t irritate my skin or EYES in the slightest, which is really saying something. I don’t generally have very sensitive skin, but my eyes burn like no other when I’m trying to scrub away my mascara, but this bad boy is as gentle as can be. Transforming from a solid balm to a silky oil with a milky lather, this cleansing balm rinses away any trace of makeup or impurities in the most calming and cooling way possible.
Step 2: Yes To Cotton Comforting Micellar Water
As fantabulous as the Farmacy Cleansing Balm is, there’s no denying that there’s always a little something leftover, which is usually the case with any makeup remover. Just to make sure my skin is totally clear of gunk before I start the cleansing process, I like to grab a cotton swab doused in some micellar water to smooth over my skin and pick up any little traces of makeup I may have missed. My current favorite, cruelty free option is one that I think I’ve mentioned before and am still loving—the Yes To Cotton Comforting Micellar Water. Now just a disclaimer: this is the ONLY one I like from the brand. I’ve tried the Yes To Cucumber option as well and it burned the living crap out of my eyes. The Yes To Cotton, however is incredibly gentle and soothing, and does a great job of picking up the trace amounts of dirt that may still be stuck to your skin.
Step 3: Trilogy Natural Skincare Cream Cleanser
Next up is an ULTRA important step, and picking the right cleanser is an absolute must. My current favorite is from the brand Trilogy Natural Skincare. Funny enough, I actually briefly worked with the PR Agency who represented this brand back in the day, and heard nothing but great things, but never actually tested out the products for myself. As I was wandering through Whole Foods (which is sadly one of my favorite pastimes) I spotted the brand on the skincare shelves and thought, why not. And I’m so glad I finally got a chance to put their products to the test! The Cream Cleanser is now my go-to face cleanser and leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean, but still SO moisturized. I generally have very dry to normal skin, so the cream cleanser which is infused with rosehip, evening primrose and carrot is a perfect pick for me. Not to mention it leaves you with a supple glow that just don’t come naturally to yours truly.
Step 4: Thayers Witch Hazel Toner
Another pick that I’ve mentioned before and use religiously is the Thayers Witch Hazel Toner. I love using toner for a similar reason as to why I love micellar water—it just picks up any leftover residue of dirt that may still be lingering, and ensures that your skin is going to be as clean and pristine as possible. My personal favorite from the brand is the Alcohol Free Witch Hazel Rose, which tones the skin to perfection without stripping your skin of its moisture. This is a cult classic product for a reason, my friends.
Step 5: LilyAna Naturals Vitamin C Serum
My biggest issue when it comes to my skin is leftover acne marks. After years of visits to the dermatologist, I’m excited to find my skin at its best in years regarding acne and breakouts, but still find myself struggling with those pesky red marks from old breakouts. What has been incredibly helpful to me in reducing my scarring has been the Vitamin C Serum from LilyAna Naturals. Available on Amazon for $20, I can happily say that this has totally been worth it for me, and I have noticed a visible difference in my overall skintone.
Step 6: Embryolisse Laid-Crème Concentre
If you’re a sufferer of dry skin, then you understand the struggle and the never ending search for the perfect moisturizer. Luckily, I’ve done most of the work for you and have disocovered one of the best moisturizers out there—and it too is a total cult classic! The Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentre is deeply rich and moisturizing, but doesn’t leave any trace of that weird greasy residue that many other moisturizers fall culprit to. On top of that, it’s great to wear under makeup and won’t leave your look sliding around your face throughout the day. Lightweight, easy to apply and perfectly hydrating, this is a fabulous daily moisturizer that you will fall head over heels with.
Step 7: 100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream
At the ripe old age of 22, being conscious of my under eyes has become a big part of my skincare routine. That’s a joke. Kind of. In all seriousness, I’m all about preventative measures when it comes to my skin. No, I don’t yet have wrinkles or crows feet, and no I don’t think I’ll be concerned when I get them. It’s natural, people. It happens to everyone. That being said, your under eyes are an incredibly delicate spot on your face, and I think that people tend to forget that. And while I don’t have wrinkles, I do have dark circles which I would prefer to minimize naturally rather than just cover up with concealer. So my favorite option has been my favorite option for years. The 100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream is truly a miracle worker. Again, I know it sounds ridiculous coming from a 22 year old, but this stuff really keeps my undereyes in check and gives a noticeable bounce back to this delicate area. Late night studying? This stuff has you covered. I’ve been using it for years and have yet to find anything better.
