All over the beauty world we have been seeing a trend that looks like it’s sticking. Matte makeup.
While some love it, and some hate it, there’s no denying that matte makeup has been making a serious comeback. BUT: comebacks can come at a price. You always hear about on trend makeup from Sephora, but on da real- who has the endless cash to drop on a trend that’s probably gonna die within a couple months to a year? Not me.
So today I’m going to be sharing with you my favorite AFFORDABLE matte makeup to keep you on trend without busting the bank!
Starting off with foundation, I have been absolutely loving the (relatively) new Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation. And I’ve been loving it despite the ridiculously long name. I know that everybody loves the L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation, but for dry skin gals like me, that particular option can be a bit daunting. The Maybelline option keeps my skin feeling smooth and hydrated, while still giving a gorgeous matte finish. You can check out my full review of this foundation here.
And to keep that foundation matte all day? By using my NYX HD Finishing Banana Powder! I’m personally not a huge fan of setting my entire face with powder, but setting my undereyes and concealed areas is a major must. The NYX Banana powder instantly smooths over pores, making you look absolutely flawless without looking cakey. If you need a new powder to brighten up your skin and keep you matte, I highly recommend checking this bad boy out.
And to ensure that all the matte foundation and matte powder doesn’t leave you looking lifeless, it’s time to bronze up with my ALL TIME FAVORITE bronzer (drugstore OR highend!)- the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer. This bronzer from the drugstore has no noticeable shimmer or sparkle, but leaves a gorgeous bronzey glow to the skin. I recently wrote a review on this fantabulous product which you can check out here.
And to give yourself a little flush, just add some matte blush! I know, it’s corny that I just rhymed but I couldn’t help myself. ANYWAY, my favorite blush for a perfectly matte look has to go to the Milani Rose Powder blushes. What I love about these is that they keep on with the matte trend, but the color options are lively, fun, and won’t make you look overly flat what with all the matte (again, I apologize for the corniness. It’s very late.) My personal fave shade has to go to the stunning “Coral Cove” which is a perfect coral/pink that adds a gorgeous hint of brightness to the skin. #Love.
Whether you’re going for a simple day time look, or a killer smokey eye, my absolute favorite (and affordable!) matte eyeshadow palette from the drugstore has to go to the Sonia Kashuk Eye On Neutral Matte Palette. Filled with 12 killer neutral shades, this palette is incredibly versatile and can offer up about a million matte looks!
Moving onto the star of the show- we have arrived at affordable matte lipsticks! (And do not fret- I’m touching on actual liquid lipsticks next). Hands down, the best matte lipstick formula at the drugstore is the Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipsticks. This formula is highly pigmented and creamy, but leaves a marvelously matte finish. With the ever expanding shade range, this is an absolute must have for any makeup lover.
As for my favorite affordable liquid lipsticks, I actually have two options. The first (and my favorite) formula is the Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stains. And before you kill me for mentioning a product from Sephora, I’m only doing so because I truly believe that this is one of the all time best formulas when it comes to liquid lipsticks and they are WAY cheaper than most at only 14 dollars a pop. That being said, for those of you who are pissed I mentioned them, my second option is another fave that CAN be found at the drugstore! And that is the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. While these aren’t the traditional liquid lipsticks most people think of, they are a very similar effect. With a whipped and creamy consistency, these products glide beautifully onto the lips and dry down to a very comfortable matte finish. They aren’t completely transfer proof, but with the insane array of colors they offer, I think it’s ok to look past that. I’ve heard that Milani has a great liquid lipstick formula as well, but I have never tried them and therefore couldn’t mention them in this post.
That’s it for this post guys! I hope I helped you delve into the wonderful world of matte makeup, and that you found some products you’re gonna give a shot!
