What does 2016 have in common with 2015, you ask?
The answer: My insatiable ability to spend all my money on makeup. But hey, better than drugs, right?
Today I’m going to be sharing with you my favorite products during the month of January! And I must warn you- grab some popcorn. It’s gonna be a long one…
I mean, come on. Can you get more winter than this? Essie’s, “Virgin Snow,” has been my nail polish staple over the past month. Sure everybody does sparkle, white, and silver in the cooler months of the year, but by adding this polish to your collection, you will be stepping out of winter stereotypes while still reppin’ the winter frost. An icy lavender, this polish is the epitome of a whimsical winter wonderland- without being too cliche.
With dozens upon dozens of brands putting out their version of contour/bronzing palettes, many lack the realization that sometimes simplicity is key. That’s why I have been absolutely loving the Tarte “Park Ave Princess” palette. This product is not only visually stunning and sleek, but includes 3 beautifully versatile products (a bronzer, a blush, and a highlight) that are perfect for a number of different skin tones. The bronzer is a classic matte (yet somehow still glowing) powder that immediately gives the wearer a sunkissed glow without the orange hue, and offers the ability to either bronze or contour. The blush is a golden peachy pink that adds a glowing flush to the cheeks and has phenomenal pigmentation. Fo’ real doe, only tap your brush in it. And lastly is the white champagne highlight included. This is probably my favorite part of the entire palette due to it’s subtle yet standout glow. Overall, I would definitely recommend getting your hands on this palette ASAP (I believe it’s getting discontinued).
HOLY GRAIL ALERT: Let’s give a massive round of applause to the beautiful thataylaa, on YouTube for introducing my pale skin to it’s new best friend. For so long I’ve been lusting after a powder that I could use to brighten up my under eyes, and for so long I have found only disappointment. No matter what brand or what product, I have been unable to find a powder to successfully set and highlight my face. That is until I picked up the Physicians Formula Translucent Correcting Powder. A meld of pink (to brighten), green (to get rid of redness) and yellow (to add warmth), this powder is a dream to smoothing your skin’s texture, and adding a brightness to the face that I didn’t even think existed. Watch out golden goddesses, us pale folk are coming to steal yo’ fleekiness.
Do you hear that? That noise? That’s the sound of the buzz surrounding this next product. At this point in the world of beauty, I don’t think it’s possible for anybody not to know about the elusive Kevyn Aucoin Medium Sculpting Powder. This product has become my absolute numero uno when it comes to getting a perfect, chiseled look. Formulated like butter, and a shade that perfectly mimics the natural look of a shadow, the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder is pretty much as good as it gets. And the good news? It’s worth every penny. The bad news? It’s gonna cost you about 4500 pennies.
What with my entire body being dry, flakey and chapped during the month of January, I couldn’t be happier to find a comfortable and hydrating matte lip. Over the past month I have grown increasingly obsessed with the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams- specifically in the shade Copenhagen. This creamy, whipped formula applies like silk and remains that way throughout the entire day. Copenhagen is a true berry shade that teeters between being red red and plum. While it is still that gorgeously vampy color, it is actually incredibly practical and wearable. Overall, I think anybody of any skin tone could pull off this dreamy color. And if it’s not your cup of tea, I highly suggest trying out the Soft Matte Lip Creams in any other shade- you won’t regret it.
(me wearing this foundation)
In the winter months I like to avoid extremes. Nothing too dewy, nothing too matte. That’s why this past month I haven’t been able to put down my Becca Radiant Skin Satin Finish Foundation. What a mouthful. This is a medium/full coverage foundation with a lightweight satin finish. It has a thicker consistency but immediately glides over the skin seamlessly. This foundation is perfect if you want that flawless, full coverage look without having to pile on the product. It only takes a drop about the size of 1 or 2 peas for me to achieve an airbrushed, creamy look. For anybody who likes a satin finish, you’ll love this product.
Another lip product I haven’t been able to put down has been the Elf Matte Lip Color in the shade “Tea Rose”. This jumbo lip pencil allows for precise application, with a color full of pigment. And while it does claim to be matte, it isn’t too matte. As I previously said, I have been really into demi matte lips during the colder months, and this product falls perfectly into that category. But what I adore more than anything about this product, is the shade. Tea Rose is that perfect (and I mean perfect) dusty, rosy mauve. It leans towards being a soft purple shade, but is still neutral enough to wear on an everyday basis. If you have been interested in purchasing Nars “Dominique”, or Bite Beauty “005”, I highly recommend trying this 3 dollar dupe before you splurge.
And the palette of the month goes to. The Coastal Scents Revealed 2! Filled with 20 shades, this burgundy based palette has been my everyday, go-to. I’m aware there are some back and forth opinions regarding the Revealed Palette series, and I personally agree with both sides. The quality is not up to MAC or UD standards, and some of their palettes are better than others. I personally own the Revealed 1, 2, and 3 and have witnessed both the good and the bad. In my personal opinion, the first two palettes are actually pretty incredible quality for the price they come at. I will admit I’m not the biggest fan of the third, however at 20 dollars for 20 shadows, I am a full supporter of these palettes. And when it comes to the Revealed 2, all I have to say is oh. my god. The shade range in this palette is truly incredible. It is filled with everything from deep cranberry and burgundy, to soft lilac shimmer shades. I think it’s safe to say that during winter time, we all love a bit more dramatic makeup- and this palette is sure to deliver. All in all, the Revealed 2 is one of my faves and I would recommend it to anyone. (Let me know if you would be interested in a full review of all 3 palettes!)
There you have it. The makeup I’ve been spending all my paychecks on.
